In a bid to crack down on sex selection abortion, China is proposing a ban on determining the sex of the fetus before birth. There would be exceptions for medical reasons.
Personally, I oppose such a ban.
It violates parental rights.
Parents have the right to information about their children. If the ultrasound technician is able to determine the sex, the parents have a right to that knowledge.
Some might say that this would reduce sex-selection abortion.
The thing is, we can't just advocate any method simply because it works.
Whatever method we call for, it has to correspond to the moral law.
And if it doesn't, we shouldn't accept it.
