Governor Corbett has signed an execution warrant for Hubert L. Michael, Jr., who is now scheduled to be executed on September 22, 2014.
The Board of Pardons is able to reduce the sentence to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole and Governor Tom Corbett is able to grant a reprieve.
Our society will not overcome crime by simply executing criminals and we cannot restore the lives of victims by ending the lives of those convicted of their murders. We cannot defend or protect life by taking life.
While Mr. Michael should be held accountable for the crime for which he was convicted, the modern penal system provides alternatives to taking his life.
