A Darwin health researcher says more data is needed on which women in the NT are having abortions, after new figures showed about 1000 terminations were carried out each year.
Suzanne Belton, president of the Family Planning Welfare Association of the NT and a researcher at Menzies School of Health Research said a Phd student had tried for six months to find information on women who were having abortions in the Territory.
"We don't know where the women are from, or how old they are. We don't even know if it is teenagers," Dr Belton told the ABC.
Here in Canada, we think that kind of information is too "divisive".
I read somewhere that health researchers have special access to abortion stats.
Maybe we need more pro-life health researchers.
