...you think society could never come to a consensus on the moral status of the fetus, but it would do just fine finding a consensus on something as subjective as "hate speech".
Consider the kind of thing that could be considered "hate speech" if Joyce Arthur were in charge:
Women should not have the right to exercise their bodily autonomy by killing their fetuses.
The mass killing of fetuses is comparable to the Holocaust.
Abortion is murder.
And so forth.
Hate speech laws are in fact instruments of thought control. That's what they boil down to.
