Pinch me I'm dreaming: Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson declares ‘Respect for Life Day’ in advance of National March for Life

I wonder if he actually read the document.

Did he really sign that? Or was it just some bureaucrat who wrote something up and had him sign it blindly?

OTTAWA, Ontario, May 10, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Mayor of Ottawa, Jim Watson, has proclaimed that the day of this year’s National March for Life, May 12th, be honored as ‘Respect for Life Day’ in the city.

“The rights of the people of Canada including the unborn, the elderly and those with handicaps are gradually being eroded,” the proclamation reads, adding that “the community needs to get involved to ensure the rights of all people are respected and upheld.”

This seems too good to be true.

If he really believes that, I might just vote for him next time around. I stress the word might.

UPDATE:

I thought there might be a bit of a catch to this. From the City of Ottawa website:

Proclamations do not constitute a personal or civic endorsement.

Requests for a proclamation should be submitted in writing to the Office of Protocol. The wording for the proclamation must be received in our office at least four-weeks in advance of the date required and not exceed 130 words. All requests must meet the criteria outlined in our policy.

Kinda lame if you ask me.
