Lifesite has posted an op-ed which underscores how those who support abortion often use euphemisms and convaluted language to make their point.
I've noticed this in the on-going discussion about the fetus being a human being.
That the fetus is an organism of the species homo sapiens is in undeniable.
In plain English, he's a human being. "Human being" is what we call members of "homo sapiens".
But they can't say he's a human being.
Because that would mean that abortion kills a human being.
It would be the plainest way of describing abortion: the killing of a human being.
But they won't say that. Because that would mean that admitting pro-lifers are right.
Of course, that wouldn't establish the moral argument against abortion.
But it abortion supporters would have to own up that the movement had been lying to the public decades about how abortion just evacuates a clump of cells.
The fact that abortion supporters do not confront head on what abortion is all about suggests to me that they have something to hide, that maybe there is a certain shame in it.
The most hardcore feminist abortion supporters will sometimes come clean with the truth. Sometimes abortionists will, too.
But they are only a small minority.
The idea that abortion kills a human being is a horrific conclusion to most people.
But the whole abortion movement has never been about facts. It has been about creating a right solely in order to not be prosecuted for killing a human. For them it was a matter of: I want what I want when I want it, don't confuse me with the facts.
The only way that abortion supporters could get abortion legalized is to re-brand it as a right.
If it weren't perceived as a right, I would suggest that most people would not support its legalization. Most people are, at the very least, uncomfortable with abortion, at least at some stage, even if they support it as a right.
That's why abortion supporters have to use all kind of euphemistic language to speak about abortion. They can't tell it straight, or they will lose supporters. They know that. The easiest way to debunk pro-life statements about the nature of abortion would be to show what abortion is. If abortion weren't so horrible as pro-lifers say it is, why wouldn't they show it?
As Dr. Phil says: people who have nothing to hide, hide nothing.
My strategy about fighting for the rights of the unborn has always been the same: expose the nature of abortion. Present the facts about the fetus and the so-called medical procedure. Repeat.
When they know the facts, most people are at the very least made more uncomfortable about abortion.
Feminists can't fight that. They can only fall back on "but think of the women". Which is all well and good, but in an age when women have rights and personal responsibility is emphasized, it's not a very compelling argument. It becomes a case of the strong versus the weak.
