Church's stand is a human rights gesture

A letter to the Editor regarding the Church's affirmation of the need for orthodoxy to receive the Eucharist:

The Pope has simply reaffirmed the loving and beautiful teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. It is intuitively obvious that Catholic politicians who support the intentional killing of yet-to-be-born babies (that is, abortion) are not in communion with Christ, the Church and other faithful Catholics. If a bishop or priest denies them communion, it is the loving thing to do as it is for the spiritual welfare of their souls.

The church asks that politicians use the example of William Wilberforce, the great politician who used his faith to overturn another great sin against human rights -- slavery. I urge Christian politicians to watch the wonderful film, Amazing Grace, for inspiration in overturning one of the great evils of our time, 100,000 abortions per year in Canada.
