I want to highlight this post from Sentinel of the Invisible, because I love the title.
On November 21st, a motion was presented to CUSA (Carleton University Students Association) seeking to deny the right of association of students opposed to abortion. Its goal is to prevent pro-life groups from obtaining the status of "club" and all the advantages pertaining to it.
The motion, which will be put to a vote on December 5th, also states that pro-life groups "compromise the personal safety and threaten the self esteem of women who may contemplate abortion or have chosen to have an abortion".
What's really being asked is that the feelings of some, (i.e. their self-esteem) be considered above the right to life of the unborn, and the freedom of speech of those who would defend them.
Oh waaaahhh.
Now why would any woman feel guilty about having an abortion? If you're so sure it's not a person, then where's the problem? If you're not sure, then maybe you shouldn't get one!
Why the doubt? If pro-lifers like me have no point whatsoever, then we're no threat.
The point is: we're a threat. A threat to their ideology.
We're a threat in their minds because poor-choicers are not confidant in their position.
They're only confidant when they can silence the opposition and manipulate the information that reaches the public.
If it was SO obvious that what we said is wrong, it would be easy to dismiss us.
It's not easy to dismiss us.
The silver lining is that if pro-lifers are being banned, we must be striking a nerve.
We have to strike some more. Maybe this is a sign we should work MORE on Canadian university campuses.
