Pro-lifer arrested in politically motivated arrest

An anti-abortion protester who held up a graphic image of an alleged aborted fetus will have to wait a while longer to find out if obscenity charges against her will proceed.

Suzie Ryan was charged with displaying obscene material after she held up her sign in front of a private abortion clinic in downtown Fredericton. She was due to appear in court on Friday, but that has been postponed.

Dozens of members of Show the Truth had carried the graphic signs during protests in July across the Maritimes.

Even Deputy Chief Leanne Fitch acknowledges the force is in uncharted legal territory.

"We did our research on that and couldn't find any case law anywhere else to support that, so that's why it has been forwarded to the Crown for review."

So let me get this straight. In Canada, you can march nude in the gay pride parade, and you won't be arrested. You can write pedophile pornography with "artistic merit" and you won't get arrested.

But show a gross abortion graphic in front of an abortion clinic-- you get arrested???

I have a question.

How many people working on this case are against legalized abortion?

I'd really be interested in knowing.

Sounds to me like this is a way to get back at pro-lifers.

This is judicial activism through the back door. If the police officers are unhappy with the law, they can do like the rest of us: lobby the government for legislation.

Things are topsy-turvey in Canada.
