The different approaches to sidewalk counselling

I have written several times about this blog. So sorry if I tire you out, but I really love it.

In the latest installment of Why Have You Forsaken Me I learn a little more about the conflicts around two different approaches to sidewalk counselling:

I am having a hard time with a sidewalk counselor who comes one day a week with her group. She intentionally breaks the law, harrasses people, and is rude to the staff. The police came when I was there with them. I explained to the officer that I am not with her, and I showed him our written agreement from the police chief. I feel she is unraveling the relationships Kathy established and we have maintained with the police, the neighbors around the clinic, and with the abortionist's staff. Our relationship with the staff is vital. This is the second time a nurse has offered to ditribute our cards from the inside. Our relationship with the police enables us to BE THERE. Chris has already been removed for breaking the law.

But, She does not care about the law and such. She follows the Joe Scheidler, Chicago method, and we are of the Fr. Riley, Helpers of His Precious Infants persuasion. She told me that we are not on the same team. I agreed! This is a sad situation. Satan is the divider. I am sure he would love to have us go against each other to distract us from the reason we are there....to be His instruments in front of the abortion center...doing His will...witnessing....evangelizing...and living the Gospel.

I had no idea. I did not know that there were (at least) two approaches-- the "harrassment" method and the more quiet method. Interesting. It's also interesting how Patty objects to the talk of "saves" like it's a hockey score or something. I wonder what the other sidewalk counsellor would say to that.

I am also surprised about the agreement with the police chief-- how this is all so formalized and set. The nurse in the abortion clinic would even distribute the CPC cards! That's fascinating! I would have never thought.

It is pretty sad when two pro-lifers are so divided. I see this all the time-- two pro-lifers really want fetal rights, but they are diametrically opposed about the methods. I tend to welcome a diversity of methods, even though some will alienate a lot and only reach out to a few, because those few may not have otherwise been reached.

I look forward to more posts. I love this blog.
