When pregnancy is a threat to a mother's life, what should be done?
Most people think that abortion--- which involves dismembering the baby-- is the answer. However, this story shows that it doesn't have to end in a dismemberment. This baby was delivered 15 weeks early because she poisoned her mom in the womb. She managed to survive and is her mother's joy...
Madalynn Isabella Kawa is home. She took a while to get there, but she's home. And no one is happier about that than her parents, Lisa and Mike Kawa.
Madalynn turned 1 last week, and Saturday more than 50 family members and friends were to celebrate the first birthday of the little Tinley Park girl who entered the world weighing less than a couple of cans of pop.
"Words can't describe the happiness we feel to have her home with us," her mom said. "There were times during the last year where we didn't know if she would ever come home."
Madalynn was born July 10, 2005, and weighed 19 ounces. She measured 12 inches long when she arrived 15 weeks early.
Her mom had a potentially fatal condition that developed during her pregnancy where the fetus began to poison her. Madalynn entered the world by emergency Caesarean section, which was required to save Lisa's life.
"We knew there was risk involved in delivering her early," Lisa said. "But what else could we do? I wish there was something else we could have done."
