Around the US, more and more keepsake ultrasound centres are popping up. They perform 4D ultrasounds on couples who want a momento of their preborn kid. 4D ultrasounds are not like the boring grainy 2D version. You can see the baby move in real time in great detail. The medical profession frowns on these centres because of the unknown effects of an extended ultrasound, even though in several decades of ultrasound use, no widespread negative effects have been recorded. Health Canada is on record as discouraging the practice. I wonder how in the world can the medical profession be okay with killing a fetus, but not okay with a little ultrasound? And whatever happened to my body, my choice? Where are all the feminists speaking out in favour of this practice?
I think that there could be a danger of this kind of centre giving a false diagnosis--okay, so regulate that, make sure all the patients are informed this does not replace a medically supervisesd ultrasound.
But don't deny people the pleasure of seeing their unborn kids, just because of POTENTIAL and UNKNOWN negative effects, which have never been discerned. It just seems like overkill.
