Columinst: a living fetus dies in an abortion

David Rodenhiser states the truth in his column:

Let's not mince words: a living fetus dies in an abortion.

Of course that doesn't stop him from favouring the woman's interests-- career, education, relationship, lifestyle, over the fetus' LIFE. Because that's what it boils down to. If it's a matter of one person's rights versus another, how does a right to the material and temporary things trump the right to life? A career, an education, a relationship, a lifestyle, these are all things you can resume once you given birth. A life can't be given back. At least the feminists understand this: that's why they don't accord rights at all to a fetus. You can't "balance" the rights of human beings, when one of the rights is a right to life. That's ridiculous.

So on the issue of ending a pregnancy, whose rights should prevail, the woman's or the fetus's? The Supreme Court of Canada sides with the woman. I agree with the court, but many others - including Show the Truth's members - don't.

The Supreme Court only agreed to a degree. The Supreme Court said that the State had the right to protect fetal life.

But it's worth pointing out that many of the religious groups that oppose abortion also argue against the use of birth control and teaching kids sex education. Their ideals help promote unwanted pregnancies among teenagers who wind up seeking abortions.

If people ignore our ideals, then yes, you will end up with kids getting pregnant and having abortion. But you can't blame the ideals, you have to hold people accountable for their actions, for NOT living up to those ideals.

Pro-lifers can't deny the fact that sometimes abortions are medically necessary to save the pregnant woman or girl's life,

Sometimes a pregnancy has to be induced early, but that is not morally the same act as rippping a baby limb from limb.

or that sometimes women or girls seeking abortions are victims of rape, including incest.

No one denies that. What we say is that even if the woman is in great distress, her pain and distress does not justify taking another human life.
