A bit of a vent.
I love these "why I am poor (pro-)choice" posts you sometimes see on blogs.
They mention all kinds of reasons why they favour legalized abortion: because it's a private matter. The state should not intervene.
They almost always invariably fail to mention: because they do not think the unborn child is an equal. They do not love their own unborn children enough to accord them equal rights-- and therefore, they won't, of course, grant other people's unborn children equal rights.
This is the real argument. If fetuses were nothing more than organs, poor-choicers would have a point.
But they're not organs. They're beautiful babies! Poor-choicers will coo at the sonogram like the rest of us do when they have their own kids. But that affection doesn't translate into bona fide love, and even if there is some love, it doesn't translate into respecting the unborn as an equal.
That's the real reason they're poor-choice.
