Pro-life Canadians: You can make a difference with your email!

YOU ARE NEEDED!

As you may know, the 2006 March for Life will be held Thursday, May 11th at noon on Parliament Hill.

Sometimes the news media completely ignores this event. Sometimes they provide some (minor) coverage. I would like to see more media coverage, and I'm sure you would, too.

The purpose of this March for Life Media Contact Blitz is to encourage news outlets to cover the March for Life on Parliament Hill on Thursday May 11th. The more the general public sees that we are active, the more they are likely to pay attention to the abortion debate, the more we have the opportunity to make inroads.

It's all very simple. Just follow these two steps.

Step 1.

Write an email to each of these news outlets requesting that they cover the March for Life being held on Parliament Hill on Thursday May 11th starting at noon. Don't make it sound like you're an activist trying to propogate your views, but a viewer who would like to see this event on tv.

If you cut and paste your email, make sure the email is appropriate for the given outlet (e.g. don't ask for film footage from a paper!)

Try not to make your email look too formal and "cut and paste". We want this to look as personalized as possible. For instance, in my email to CTV News, I mentioned that I would like to see coverage on the CTV National News. In the email to the CBC's The National, I said I'd like Mark Kelly to do the reporting, etc.

Make sure you mention the TIME, DATE AND LOCATION of the March for Life. Mention that you are interested in stories relating to abortion.

If you cannot be burdened to write all of them, write those you can.

Your email does not have to be very long-- a couple of lines is sufficient. A pleasant, curteous tone works best.

Some of the outlets have web-based forms. Please visit those as well.

If you will not be participating in the March for Life, and you want coverage so that you can see what went on, please mention that.

It might be a good idea to put a "request read receipt" to see if the email is read.

Step 2

When you are done writing the emails, please forward this email or post this message where at least FIVE other Canadian pro-lifers can see it. Please include both the instructions and the contact information. Try to think of at least five possible pro-life contacts. If you do not know five, that's fine, but try your very hardest. Encourage them to forward this or post this to where five other pro-lifers can see this message. It is crucial that we get as many people as possible to write in.

I am certain that if an editor gets twenty emails requesting coverage for the March for Life, he will sit up and take notice. Your individual email will contribute to the cause, for sure. Please help. You can make a difference.
